TEDx Youth @ Randall Middle School

Adam’s talk will focus around a program I've been developing for a number of years called Kinetics of Math. Kinetics of Math is a method for teaching math skills through embodied and socially engaging activities. During the program, students learn to work with the circus prop called Poi while discussing and working through the equations which represent the movements they are doing with the prop. We begin with a 30 - 45 min movement lesson with poi, then move to a 30 - 45 min math lesson at computers in small groups, then poi, then math, repeat. Mathematically we discuss trigonometry, parametric equations, and transformations on functions, all important skills for students learning algebra through calculus. It's been incredible to see students still asking math questions after many hours of movement and learning.
